Patio Season Starts with Sun Safety

Simple steps today can help protect your skin for years to come

While you're enjoying the sunshine, your patio crew is working under it. We’re teaming up with Brown’s Socialhouse to make sun protection a seamless part of every shift.

Sun Safety for the Patio Crew

Patio season is the best time of the year in Canada, but for restaurant servers, it means long hours moving between shade and direct UV rays. Sun protection shouldn't feel like a lecture, it should be as routine as tying your apron.

Outdoor workers face a significantly higher risk of skin damage due to extended exposure during peak UV hours (10 AM to 4 PM). While guests enjoy a meal under the umbrella, servers and patio staff are constantly moving between sun and shade.

Save Your Skin Foundation and Brown’s Socialhouse are teaming up to promote simple safety guidelines for outdoor staff:

  • Apply SPF 30+ at least 20 minutes before heading outside for your shift.

  • Wear full-spectrum sunglasses to protect your eyes from invisible UVA/UVB rays.

  • Keep SPF lip balm (15+) and water close by at your station.

  • Take shade breaks whenever possible during long afternoon rushes.
